About Me

From Fear to Leadership

In my early teens, I struggled immensely with public speaking. The thought of standing before a crowd sent my heart racing and palms sweating. But that fear became my catalyst. I realized that avoiding discomfort wouldn't make it go away — and I desperately wanted to share my ideas and connect with people.

So I took up courage to lead my class delegation as a first-year student at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. I had the opportunity to lead and resolve a crisis that would have damaged school facilities. From there, I was appointed into the University of Nigeria Stakeholders Forum as the first undergraduate student member — and I never looked back.

As the Youth Legislator representing Enugu North Senatorial District, I have had the privilege of engaging young people across its six Local Government Areas, listening to their aspirations and advocating for practical solutions in education, empowerment, skills development, leadership participation and community development.

But the work ahead is greater than any individual. We are seeking to build stronger pathways to education and digital learning; expand opportunities for entrepreneurship and skills acquisition; nurture responsible young leaders; and support communities with initiatives that translate leadership into tangible improvement in people's lives.

A personal reflection from a friend and comrade.

I first met Hon. Asogwa Chinemerem Thomas Ibobo Udenu (Sage) at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where we began our academic journey together in the department of English and Literary Studies. And by God’s grace, we graduated same year.

But beyond the lecture halls, examinations and shared experiences of university life, I came to know a man whose understanding of leadership extends far beyond titles. I have watched his convictions mature, his sense of responsibility deepen, and his passion for people become increasingly purposeful.

Sage is, to me, more than a friend; he is a brother. And perhaps that closeness gives me a unique perspective on the values that drive him: fairness, inclusion, competence, accountability and an unwavering belief in the dignity and potential of people.

His vision of leadership is not founded on sentiments or the elevation of one group above another. It is rooted in the conviction that every person deserves a fair opportunity to contribute, to grow and to thrive.

I therefore lend my voice to this vision—not merely because I have known the man behind it for many years, but because I believe in the principles he seeks to advance.

THE NIGERIA YOUTH PARLIAMENT:

Aware that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) guarantees the protection of lives and property as a primary responsibility of government.

Further aware that Enugu East Senatorial District; comprising six LGAs; has recently experienced a disturbing surge in insecurity including kidnapping, armed robbery, cult clashes, violent attacks, destruction of farmlands, and economic disruptions.

Concerned that communities such as Nike, Mbulu Owo, Ugwogo, Emene, Abakpa, Trans-Ekulu, Nkwo Nike axis, Gariki, Amechi etc., and parts of Enugu metropolis face frequent attacks leading to fear among residents, traders, motorists, and farmers.

Deeply worried that insecurity has resulted in loss of lives, displacement of families, reduced agricultural activity, closure of markets, youth unemployment, trauma, and slowed economic growth.

Noting that insecurity has overstretched local vigilante groups, while youth involvement in crime increases due to unemployment, poor surveillance, drug abuse, and weak intelligence gathering.

Recognizing that the Nigeria Youth Parliament has the mandate to advocate for youth-focused policies, security interventions, and national development initiatives.

Further recognizing that effective security requires collaboration among youth groups, traditional rulers, community leaders, security agencies, government institutions, NGOs, and civil society.

THE PARLIAMENT THEREFORE RESOLVES TO:

Call on the Federal Government through the NSA, Ministry of Interior, and Ministry of Youth Development to conduct a security needs assessment in Enugu East Senatorial District.
Urge the Enugu State Government to strengthen community policing, equip vigilante groups, increase patrol presence, and deploy more trained personnel.
Mandate the Nigeria Youth Parliament Committee on Security, National Orientation, and Intelligence to conduct a fact-finding mission and submit a comprehensive report within 30 days.
Call on the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to introduce youth reorientation and empowerment programs to curb youth involvement in crime.
Appeal to the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, and NSCDC to enhance intelligence-driven policing and community collaboration.
Encourage the establishment of a community–Youth Security Partnership Forum in each LGA to improve information flow.
Advocate for installation of streetlights, CCTV cameras, and emergency response systems in high-risk areas.
Promote peacebuilding and inter-community dialogue to reduce youth restiveness and conflicts.
Call for increased funding and logistic support for community policing and vigilante structures.
Urge the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to intensify sensitization against drug abuse and youth violence.
